A dough dam is formed around one or both kneecaps and filled with warm medicated oil so heat and herbs target the joint capsule and surrounding tissues. It is chosen for stiffness, clicking, or aching knees rather than for sports-deep friction massage alone.
Retention often runs 20–30 minutes per side after setup; the full appointment is usually close to an hour including massage integration. We rewarm oil as needed for comfort.
Kati Basti focuses on the lower back; Janu Basti isolates the knee. If both areas bother you, we may alternate treatments on different days rather than overload heat in one visit.
Tell us if you have a prosthesis, recent scope, ligament tear, or unstable swelling—sometimes we postpone or modify heat depth. Active infection over the joint is a clear contraindication.
Keep knees warm, avoid icy sports drinks right after, and skip aggressive squats the same day. Gentle walking and hydration support the lubricating effect many people feel the next morning.
